The Loadrunner kit is designed to fit wheelbarrows with square profile straight handles. The Loadrunner kit fits the majority of straight handled wheelbarrows on the market without issue, or at most by drilling a new hole. Straight Steel handlebars are OK. Wheelbarrows that are based around bent steel tube frame are generally not compatible with the kit unless you do more substantial modifications. The motor hub is formed in a nylon rim that fits industry standard 16-4.0 pneumatic tires to provide smooth rolling over bumpy terrain and the benefit of customizable tire pressure.
This means the inflated tire is 16" in diameter and 4" wide.
Grin provides options for both a standard tread that serves most users quite well, and a deeper agricultural tread for jobs in muddy fields where extra traction is needed. Please select your preferred tire type when you check out.

The quick answer is GREAT. Wheelbarrows are not fair weather devices and must be useable regardless of the forecast. All the Loadrunner circuitry is either fully potted or conformal coated in a protective enclosure, the buttons and connectors are waterproof, the throttle lever uses a non-contact magnetic hall sensor, and the motor is well sealed to keep water outside.
We still recommend storing the wheelbarrow in a dry space like a shed just because steel parts will slowly rust, but you don't have to worry about the electronics suddenly flaking out.

Yes, of course. Without a battery hooked up the wheelbarrow operates like a normal manual wheelbarrow, just with a heavier hub.

The warranty is three years under normal and appropriate use.

It's not normal for wheelbarrows to have brakes, but the Loadrunner does have them! The brakes are regen brakes, braking from inside of the hub motor in the wheel of the wheelbarrow. You get proportional braking by pressing the left-hand throttle, enabling you to control the heavy wheelbarrow on a descent.
How far does it go on one charge?

That's a great question, and of course it depends on:
A) how large a battery you have
B) how much load you are carrying, and
C) how steep is the hill
A wheelbarrow carrying 200lbs (90kg) can go 33 km on flat ground. Roughly speaking you can expect double this distance if moving a lighter 100lb load.
Most wheelbarrow trips are relatively short distances of 10-50 meters, so even 1 km of distance is quite a few loads back and forth.

The Loadrunner motor controller draws a maximum of 15 amps from the battery pack. You can use the small 1.5Ah or 2Ah power tool batteries, but we usually recommend 3Ah or more. The larger the battery, the more range you will have on a charge.
However, really large powertool batteries (like 9Ah+) can be so heavy that there is a higher risk of cracking the battery mount if the wheelbarrow is tossed around a lot. So keep that in mind. Replacing a cracked battery mount in any case is quite easy.
What if I use a different brand of 18V tool battery, not Makita, Milwaukee, or Dewalt?

In that case, you can usually find an off-the-shelf adapter from your brand to one of the ones we support here.
We found that the vast majority of tradespeople in Canada and the USA use one of the 3 brands above, and many 3rd party adapters exist to fit other 18V battery brands (eg Bosch, Ridgid etc.) into these holders. We recommend checking out powertoolsadapters.ca as a great website that specializes supplying quality adapters.
Do the two batteries have to be identically charged?

That is ideal to get the most range. However our battery monitor circuit will safely shut off whenever one of the packs is too low. So you can safely combine two batteries that are at different charge levels, or even use two batteries of different capacities (e.g. one 2Ah pack and one 4Ah pack), if that's all you have around.

Yes, you can also run the Loadrunner from other 36V or even 48V battery packs as long as they can deliver 15 amps of discharge current. In that case, you will need to purchase the Loadrunner36 LiGo option, but without any LiGo batteries selected.
You will be responsible for sorting out the wiring and battery mount as well as the electrical termination, either to XT60 or Anderson connectors.

Unfortunately not. The motor hub is not designed to split in half down the middle to allow the insertion of a solid puncture proof tire, it must be used with pneumatic tires. We've run into very few problems of flat tires given the thickness of the tread but if this is a worry around certain jobsites with lots of nails and staples around, we recommend simply installing slime inside the inner tube. That will ensure that most punctures will heal and seal themselves without any loss of air.
How fast does it go?

By default, we ship the Loadrunner controller with a 7 kph (4.5 mph) top speed in forwards, and 2 kph (1.3 mph) in reverse which we found most appropriate.
However, these limits can be changed with the Phaserunner software suite to be higher or lower if desired. With field weakening it is possible to go up to 10 kph (6 mph) with a 36V pack if you like to move at a jogging pace.

The 18V device with powertool batteries allows you to quick swap with charged packs and not have any downtime. But if you don't have spare batteries, then the charge time will depend on the speed of your powertool charger(s).
The 36V device with our LiGo option comes with a 2A charger. That will fully charge a 2 LiGo pack (6Ah total) in just over 3 hours, and a 3 LiGo pack (9Ah total) in 5 hours. You can easily upgrade to a higher current charger if you want rapid charge times.

Once we receive your returned item, processing typically takes 5-7 business days. Refunds will be issued to your original payment method, or the exchanged item will be shipped promptly.

We are still ramping up production in our own factory, so please allow up to one week for us to assemble and test your system. You will get an automatic email with a tracking number as soon as it ships, and we will contact you directly if we expect it to take longer than a week.

Yes, usually. US orders ship by DHL, and every shipment into the United States now clears customs whatever its value. DHL bills you directly after delivery: a flat $18 USD brokerage fee for the paperwork, plus any duty US customs charges.
The Loadrunner is made in Canada and we file CUSMA/USMCA paperwork with every shipment, but that does not always mean duty free. As of September 2026, US customs is charging a 25% duty on our LiGo 10X batteries, so the 36V LiGo kit carries that duty on its batteries. We don't believe this is consistent with CUSMA, and it could be reversed, but nobody knows what the future will bring. Parts made outside Canada, such as the wheelbarrow motor, may also be charged 15%.

There are many applications for both this motor as well as the control electronics outside of conventional looking wheelbarrows. We are happy to assist other companies with innovative electrification ideas where these components could prove suitable.

We are open to resellers who have a connection to an existing market where this system is useful. We can offer either just the kit or the system preinstalled on an Erie brand of wheelbarrow.
However, there is not currently much margin to partner with distributors who in turn would be selling to retailers.
